Sea freight

Seafreight is most suitable for the transportation of large quantities of goods between continents, if a low unit cost is important.

Balti Logistika offers the transportation of both partial and full containers with regular departure and arrival times all over the world.

Documents used in seafreight:

  • Bill of Lading;
  • manifest of goods;
  • commercial invoice or packing slip issued by the shipper.

Good to know:

  • Weight and volume ratio in seafreight: 1 m3 = 1000 kg.
  • The organisation of seafreight is based on the Hague – Visby Rules.
  • In seafreight the carrier’s liability is up to SDR 2 per gross kg.
  • When the goods are transported via seafreight, the shipping documents, including Bill of Lading, commercial invoices and packing slips, as a rule move separately from the shipment. The consignee receives the shipment against an original Bill of Lading (except in the event of an Express Bill of Lading).
  • There are different types of seafreight containers: usually 20’ and 40’ containers are used, but in addition to that there are also containers that retain temperature (reefer) for the transportation of perishable goods, and open top containers for shipments with large dimensions.
